  16. I started this thread and decided on the Zoom (VFX) from MacWharehouse
  17. for $279--complete. It worked at 14.4 (literally) right out of the box,
  18. from my PowerBook 170, on ARA, using the script from Sumex. I ordered it
  19. at 4:50 PM Tuesday, it arrived 9:30 AM Wednesday. There are other good
  20. modems out there. I honestly can't summarize it all without hurting
  21. feelings.

  23. Read comp.dcom.modem(s), but don't be tempted into buying a PC package. A
  24. difference of a few bucks is not worth it.

  26. If you don't know what you are doing, wait! The wizard will make it
  27. easier for you in time. The clincher (on the Zoom) for me was a posting
  28. by a guy who said he didn't understand all the fuss--the Zoom took some
  29. flame--because his worked out of the box.

  31. I haven't tested the FAX capabilities or any of the software goodies
  32. supplied by Zoom, but those were not my first priority anyway.
