- Re: Best, cheapest 14.4 modem
-
- I started this thread and decided on the Zoom (VFX) from MacWharehouse
- for $279--complete. It worked at 14.4 (literally) right out of the box,
- from my PowerBook 170, on ARA, using the script from Sumex. I ordered it
- at 4:50 PM Tuesday, it arrived 9:30 AM Wednesday. There are other good
- modems out there. I honestly can't summarize it all without hurting
- feelings.
-
- Read comp.dcom.modem(s), but don't be tempted into buying a PC package. A
- difference of a few bucks is not worth it.
-
- If you don't know what you are doing, wait! The wizard will make it
- easier for you in time. The clincher (on the Zoom) for me was a posting
- by a guy who said he didn't understand all the fuss--the Zoom took some
- flame--because his worked out of the box.
-
- I haven't tested the FAX capabilities or any of the software goodies
- supplied by Zoom, but those were not my first priority anyway.
-
- Good luck--and post your findings! (*WE* are the wizard!)
