- A static address will work with ARA and a gator. I've used it several
- times.
-
- The problem that could pop up would be if several users have the same
- static address and all try to connect to different ARA hosts behind the
- same Gator. The IP conflict is no different than if the Macs were directly
- attached to localtalk in this case.
-
- If only one ARA host exists and it is shared by several users, they all
- could have different static IP #s.
-
- Or the same IP # could be issued and the IP connections should work as long
- as the Gator has a chance to flush its arp(?) table between connections. I
- haven't tried it, but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
-
- Our current configuration will allow multiple ARA clients to attach to
- multiple ARA hosts on the same GatorBox and LocalTalk segment. To avoid IP
- # conflicts and ease of use, we just configured enough dynamic numbers to
- handle the possible connections. This works well too.
