- Having been recently introduced to the world of System7, I am now getting
- setup
- with Remote Access and all of the goodies that it brings. I went through
- major
- pain however, in trying to get the modems to initialize properly. After
- messing
- around with a breakout box I found that DTR was missing TO one of the
- modems.
- I reprogrammed the MNPLINK document to initialize the modem to ignore DTR.
-
- I would still like to know what is going on though. I have 3 Macs, a PLUS
- with
- System7 & 4MB and 2 Mac IIci's. THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS ON ONE OF THE
- IIci's!
- The PLUS and IIci at work operate correctly, the IIci at home has DTR
- unlit. When
- the errant Mac does send data, the DTR LED does flash momentarily.
-
- The work IIci has APPLETALK, Ethernet, MacIRMA and the modem. The home
- IIci has
- the modem, a StyleWriter and an XCeed cache card. I have tried all
- permutations of
- modems and cables in each location, no change in LED. The PLUS has 4MB,
- modem &
- external disk. (Apple said to reinstall the system & Remote Access but
- this didn't
- change anything). (Home Mac is 8-bit color, 14", work is 19"
- mega-graphics B&W)
-
- I have also tried different modems with the home Mac always without DTR.
- (I have
- used Telebit T2500 & TrailBalzer Plus). (I hope it isn't H/W, the
- warranty expired
- last month, wouldn't you know it!).
-
- Any insight would be appreciated. Please e-mail me at 'tom@bnr.ca'. I'll
- post the
- winning answer. (I love the net!).
