- rather than work, i thought i'd tell you my opinion of some new apps i
- got for my new pb 180's (one of which came with the printer port
- unsoldered requiring a motherboard replacement on the two day old pb).
-
- config. info. 180 with 14 Mb Ram (10 Mb RAM card from Techworks - very
- good company; excellent service) 120 Mb Disk.
-
- i don't like the local talk locking coneectors. they're too hard to pull
- out. i lookedaround andfound some olderconnectors without the locking
- mechanism. they work fine.
-
- note - i use the pb on my desk with a 13" RGB monitor and the apple
- extended keyboard and a kensington turbo mouse 3.0 [ i checked and they
- are okay to usewiththe pb plugged in (no battery drain] and attached to a
- laserwriter II.
-
-
- btw - the pb keyboard is right-handed biased.
- =========
-
- Norton Essentials for the Powerbook - causes Mathematica to quit.
-
- CPU - the screen saver which isn't needed. it causes major screwups on
- both screenswhen used on pb with an attached 13" RGB monitor.
-
- Sam 3.5 - much improved interface but it makes apps start up very slowly.
- very nice way to turn off without rebooting and allows otherinstallers to
- do their job without thoseflashing dialog boxes.
-
- StuffIt Deluxe 3.0.3 - this is just too big and does too much. i guess
- they keep putting in features so they sell the upgrades - we need more
- KISS apps.
-
- Apple Powerbook carrying case - great design except for one thing, they
- made the 2 battery pouches the right size for batteries but not when
- they're in in the protective cases they now tell you to put the batteries
- in. should not be sold or bought
-
- Kensington microsecurity cable - a great protector - easy to carry
- around; attaches to back.
-
- Kensington deluxe traveler case - the best i've tried out of 5 cases i've
- checked out.
-
- Powerswap - it really works. good job.
-
- CopyDoubler- my nominee for product of the month. it does its job
- beautifully and with no extras. .smart replace is terrific for speeding
- up copying. (also the fifth gen. tech support group is first rate).
-
- appoe batteries - i'm getting 1.75 hours use without taking any battery
- conservation steps andusing a disk intensive program.
-
- Kensington Power Keypad - nice design. does the job. comes with a $20
- rebate coupon.
