- I recently purchased Excel 4.0 and am running it on a IIsi 5/80 under
- System 7.0 with Tuneup 1.1.1. I have trouble launching excel about
- 50% of the time (after fresh reboots). I will either get the
- registration box followed by the toolbars and instead of the disk
- whirring for a while followed by a blank worksheet the machine either
- hangs or excel exits with a "The application 'unknown' has
- unexpectedly quit because of an error of type 1 occurred" message.

- Thinking that it might be some sort of control panel/extension
- interaction problem I tried running excel with all extensions off and
- it seems to work fine. However with these minimal set of extensions
- it fails:

- System 7 TuneUp 1.1.1
- Microsoft Word TrueType Printer INIT (equivalent to Microsoft
- Word 4.00G, I think)
- StyleWriter
- Disinfectant 2.9
- MacTCP 1.1
- MacSLIP 1.0

- it fails. Microsoft support was less than helpful ("we don't
- guarantee that it will work with anything other than the base OS so if
- it works with all extensions off we don't want to hear about it") and
- had no suggestions or lists of known incompatibilities. I'm going to
- spend yet more time trying to isolate the particular extension (hoping
- it is just one rather than some combination), but I really do need all
- of the above (I think).
