- SYSTEM: Mac IIvx 20/400 with Mirror 400 Mb external drive, LW IINT,
- Word 5.0 or 5.1a
-
- When printing fully justified text in Word, text formatted in Helvetica
- font of any size runs off the printed page as if the right margin was
- set beyond the end of the page (it isn't). There are huge amounts
- of extra white space between each word, which push the text off the
- page. Sections of text in other fonts (eg. Times, Avant Garde) on
- the same page are formatted corretly.
-
- When I view the page using print preview, the text displays something
- l ik e th is w h er e th e spacing is all wrong and the
- lines run over the right margin. Page Layout and Normal views both
- show the text formatted correctly. I see this problem with Word 5.0
- and 5.1a. It looks like Word is finding the typeface info, but has
- lost the character width info for the Helvetica font. Increasing the
- right margin to something large, say 4", puts text on the page, but
- the spacing is still screwed.
-
- Both Word and the documents live on the Mirror external HD - this combo
- worked ok on a SE/30 running System 7.0. The problems started when
- we upgraded from the SE/30 to the IIvx running System 7.1.
- I've tried everything I know - trash preferences, re-install fixed and
- TT fonts, rebuilt desktop, install Word on IIvx internal HD, disabled
- extensions, use System 7.0 LW driver, turn off 32-bit mode, and so on
- without being able to solve this problem. The frustrating part is
- that only Helvetica (the font we need) is affected - Times,
- NewCentury, Palatino, Bookman, ect all print correctly. Plug the
- Mirror back into the SE/30, open and print a document in Word and
- volia! - correctly formatted Helvetica text. Plug it into the IIvx
- again and the problem reappears.
-
- Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can try short of trashing
- and re-installing everything on both disks?
