- I have written a software product called FoolProof - Desktop Security
- for the Macintosh. It was designed and written for schools in the Portland
- Meto area. They were considering At Ease and Kids Desk but were concerned
- about loosing the Mac desktop in the trade ( both products provide security
- by covering the finder interface with a custom launcher thus providing a
- measure of security ). In the interest of computer literacy they felt it was
- important not to eliminate the Mac interface.
-
- FoolProof offers several desktop security features. It is not a full blown
- security product. FoolProof locks the Macintosh desktop, preventing movement
- and renaming of files, folders, and applications. Dragging icons is disabled
- and all finder renaming is refused. Inadvertant trashing is impossible.
- Unauthorized copying either onto or off of the hard disk is impossible.
-
- FoolProof locks control panels, preventing unauthorized changes to settings
- and configuration.
-
- FoolProof can be configured to save only to floppy disks or to direct all
- saves to a specified directory on the hard disk.
-
- FoolProof is really a desktop and hard disk control product, not a security
- product in the traditional sense. It has been a hit in the classroom and
- other public mac locations. It sets up in a minute and turns on with a single
- switch.

- Sorry for the commercial nature of this message but I've seen so many
- about this type of product that I thought people might like to know about
- this.
