- In comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard you write:
-
- >Well got my GUS under the tree this morning and popped in 6 dram chips
- >bumping my card up to 1meg. I have the SCDEMOS.ZIP mid files, but when I
- >play the fist file I get a "can't load ?????something???? 64 to channel 8"
- >I have a meg so can anyone tell me my problem. In addition can someone
- >tell me if it is possible to find out if the GUS recognizes the fact that
- >it has 1meg????
-
- The error you received with the midi player means that it could not find
- the specified instrument in your patch system ie)it is not listed in the
- default.cfg file. You can overcome this two ways. #1, creat a cfg file for
- the song you want to play and substitute instrument #64 for one that you
- have that exists. #2, wait for the new and improved full patch set from
- Gravis.
-
- As far as detecting a full meg of ram on the gus, I am working on a
- program that not only tells you how much ram is on your GUS, but also
- tests it to make sure that the chips are all OK. Expect it very soon on
- EPAS. If somebody does not beat me to it. (It is a very simple program to
- write).
