- I have installed both cards, and they work fine, as long as you 'wake' up or
- initialize one at a time. That is, you can't have MVSOUND.sys from PAS-16 in
- the TSR while you want to use the SBOS from GUS. The same is true for the
- MIDI Mapper, MIDIMAP.CFG, and support drivers for Windows 3.1. You either
- have one or the other. (Although, I've heard that there are ways to have multi-
- system.ini and win.ini, so that you can have multiple setups/configurations.)
-
- I haven't tested out any of the sampling, playback, or mic-recording, since I
- am not really literate in music or sound manipulation. But, I have tested out
- the media player from Win3.1 on both cards, playing the MIDI files from both
- companies. The .wav files play well on both cards, too. I have tested out
- some games, and with the few exceptions for SBOS/GUS (the same as everyone
- else's, like Max. Overkill), the SB emulation came out fine.
-
- The trick is to make sure that the IRQ's, DMA's, and Base Port Addresses are
- not the same for the GUS and the SB part of PAS-16. Since, the PAS-16's SB
- emulation is on the hardware, I couldn't use the defaults (I5 and 220h) with
- SBOS/GUS. I used 230h, I7, and D1 for GUS, and fitted PAS-16 where it fits:
- I10 and D3 or D5.
-
- One note on above: SBOS and most of the games won't let you use high IRQ's and
- DMA's. GUS also has less choices of IRQ's and DMA's than PAS-16 to configure.
-
- Other notes: I am only using the amplified line out on the GUS, since I have
- this constant feedback-like tone/noise on the unamplified line. I thought
- that this was due to having two cards, but it is still there after I
- unplugged the PAS-16. So, I figured that there is something wrong with the
- GUS ports. The GUS also has _weak_ or _unimpressive_ softwares and docs.
- Wish I could use the PAS Multimedia Tools while engaging the GUS.
-
- Hope this helps. When I have more time and have tested out more games, I'll
- post again. Till then...
