- 6xx errors mean "There's something wrong with the floppy drive/controller"
- Something failed to respond during the POST, so the BIOS displayed the
- 601 error and then locked out the floppies.

- So it's not terribly useful. Check your motherboard switch settings to
- makes sure you have it set to indicate the correct number of drives.
- Also check to make sure the controller is properly plugged in and all
- the cables (both data and power) are correctly connected.

- If the error still shows up, borrow a floppy controller and see if the
- drives will work with it. If not, swap the drives. If they *do* work
- with it, then your original control is dead...
