- Dear netters:
-
- I am runnign OS/2 on my taiwan made 386DX upgradable to 486DX with 8
- MB and Maxtor 7213A. About a week ago, I tried to install Zoom v.32bis
- internal fax modem on com 4. It worked first time, but next day when
- I turn my computer, OS/2 gave me errors with com.sys and vcom.sys(I
- don't that's .exe or .sys). It didn't crashed, but I couldn't use the
- modem. So I tried to switch to other com ports to make it work. From
- then whenever I turn my computer, it gives me HDD controller failure
- and asks me to insert system diskette(This happens before loading any
- operating system). So I took out the modem, but it still doesn't work.
- I cannot see my harddrive from a: after I boot from DOS system
- diskette(I cannot even boot from OS/2 system diskette). And it beeps
- every 5 or 10 secs as soon as I turn on my machine. To find out where
- the beeping comes from, I started to disconnect parts from power
- supply. And guess what? I disconnected everything from power supply
- except the hard drive(only power supply and the hard drive). And it
- still beeps. I called maxtor tech support. And the guy told me that
- there are interrupt conflict and recommended me to reinitialize the
- hard drive with IDE_INIT utility. But it didn't work.In base geometry,
- everything(cyl...) is zero.
-
- I will return it to repair. But how can the hard drive beep(Power
- supply alone didn't beep)? Am I missing something here?
