- The Sony 31a, an internal drive. I have read that the controller card is not
- from Sony. It uses a proprietary Sony interface.
- The drive is reviewed in the late December PC Mag. It looked fine, but PC
- Mag fussed about its access time. It seems to me they are overemphasizing
- that number.
- This drive is good value, IMHO. I ended up getting a NEC 25, a comparably
- priced external SCSI drive available in $400 multimedia kits from NEC and
- MediaVision (that's 2 different kits). I figured I wanted the cdroms in the
- Mediavision kit anyway, and strongly preferred an external drive. The NEC
- seems fast enough, and works with the video in Sherlock Holmes II (unlike the
- allegedly faster NEC 37 drive).
- BTW, the Sony is also available in an attractive multimedia kit from Sun Moon
- Star. It includes a SoundBlaster Pro clone card and 5 cd-roms. Price is
- $379 from Sam's Club.

- Cheers,
- Dave
