- I've been using a Maxtor XT-1140 for several months now with no problems.
- I just got another one given to me this week. They are 114MB MFM drives.
- I changed the jumpers on teh new one to be a secondary drive and hooked it
- up to my controller, formatted it (with '/S') and copied all the files
- from the old disk to the new one. I reset the jumpers on the old one to make
- it the primary (1st) drive, and took the old one out of the computer.
- During all this activity I had the CMOS RAM set correctly for how ever many
- disks there were installed at that time.
- Now when I reboot the computer, the system goes through the video BIOS and
- system BIOS check fine, then, without any error messages about bad disks
- or anything, the video switches into 40 col mode and displays the message
- "NO BASIC ROM"
- "SYSTEM HALTED"
-
- I'm completely baffled. Anyone have any ideas?
