- Hi,
-
- The difference between an interlaced and non-interlaced is the way the display
- is put onto the VDU. An interlaced screen displays all the odd then all
- the even rows of the image. This means that at a high resolution the interlaced
- screen may "flicker" as the phosper that coats the inside of the tube will fade
- before it is reenergised by the electron beam.
-
- A non-interlaced monitor will not have this problem as it does row 1, 2, 3, 4
- etc until the end of the screen, then repeats this. This will result in a
- more stable picture. A non-interlaced monitor sometimes doesn't quite hit the
- inbetween space of the odd rows when drawing the even ones and this also causes
- problsem.
-
- After saying all that, I have an interlaced monitor and at 800x600 it is fine.
- It does flicker a bit, but not enough to justify the difference in price.
-
- The non-interlaced monitors are more expensive because they need to scan twice
- as much screen in the same time as a non-interlaced monitor.
-
- Some video cards will not provide a non-interlaced output anyway, so check this
- out. My Trident 1Mb SVGA has a jumper to choose between interlaced and
- non-interlaced output.
