- I am in the process of buying a 486SX based machine. Looking for
- graphics accelerators has me a little confused. I haven't been able
- to get a complete answer to a few of my questions.
-
- I would like to have 16/256 colors @ 1024x768 resolution. The cards i
- have looked at are Win 7 VGA, Diamond Speedstar 24x and the Orchid 1280.
- All are advertised as being "windows accelerators". My questions are:
-
- What exactly is "windows acceleration"? Or put differently,
- what part of windows environment do they accelerate.
- Do these cards contain a seperate processor? If yes, how are
- they different from generic graphics co-processor card.
- Will other apps see an improved performance too? I am not
- thinking of fancy graphics apps, but simple things like
- graph drawings in Quicken or the paint program that comes w/
- Windows, etc.
-
- Any comments/opinions/facts are welcome. E-mail me and i will gladly
- summarize to the net if there is enough interest.
-
- thanks
- micky
