- 8. SVGA Air Warrior by Kesmai (Konami)
-
- This game has been out for about two weeks now. I gamma tested it
- and posted a long preview about a month ago. SVGA AW has an incredibly
- smooth H2H mode that runs at 2400 baud. Planes include WW1, WW2, and
- Korean War vintage aircraft, realistic flight characteristics, and runs
- in 640x480 256 color mode. There are four off-line drones to practice
- against, and if you have an account on GEnie, you can get technical
- support from the programmers through a bulletin board included in GEnie's
- $4.95/month charge for basic services.
-
- The game is also the "front end" program for the multi-player game Air
- Warrior on GEnie, which unfortunately costs $6/hour to play, runs at
- only half real time (H2H and offline practice can run full time or 1/2
- time), but lets you fly against up to 50 players at the same time. The
- game includes a $50 credit on GEnie. Most stores that carry the game
- will sell it for about $40, so you'll get an excellent flight sim and
- cover your expenses at the very least. The GEnie credit can be applied
- to your balance without restriction (you don't have to use it on Air
- Warrior), but it will pay for about 8 hours online in the AW arena.
- Alternatively, you could apply the credit toward the cost of enrollment
- in the Air Warrior Training Academy (AWTA), which consists of structured
- training sessions in the art and science of multiplayer Air Warrior,
- and free access to the AWTA training area, all for a very low price.
