  17. I recently bought Ultima Underworld because I've played most of the Ultima
  18. games and I heard so many great things about it on the net.  Unfortunately,
  19. I'm having one MAJOR problem with it: I can't get the music or sounds to work!!

  21. I've installed the game on a 486 33 with a Soundblaster board (220h & IRQ 5).

  23. After typing 'uw', it quickly flashes the following lines:
  24.     EMS allocated
  25.     sound system initialization failed
  26. Then it continues on to the game.
  27. I get the voices during the introduction, but the rest of the game is silent.

  29. Clicking the 'ON' button in the sound and music menus under options has no
  30. effect.  (It won't even highlight the buttons.)

  32. I tried changing the jumper on the SB to IRQ 7 (which UW considers to be the
  33. the default mode) and even re-installing the game after the change.  But still
  34. no sound.  I've tried the Adlib option with the same results.  It did allow
  35. me to turn the sound on in the PC speaker mode but I don't think I'm ready to
  36. settle for that.

  38. I did change (and save) the configuration with 'uwsound' and it verifies that
  39. it correctly finds everything.

  41. I don't believe it's a SB problem because it works fine on my other games
  42. (including Ultima7).

  44. Of course, Origin's customer service line is forever busy.

  46. If anyone has come across this problem or has ANY ideas, PLEASE let me know.
  47. It looks like a great game but I'm only experiencing half of it.
