- I got some boxes of Sierra games for Christmas - one box containing
- King's Quest II, Space Quest II and Police Quest II; the other
- containing King's Quest III, Space Quest III and Police Quest III.
- Both Police Quests and Space Quest III work fine - great fun,
- marvellous, haven't had any sleep since I opened the boxes! However,
- there seems to be a problem with the font rendering in the other three
- games (ie. both King's Quests and Space Quest II). The status bar at
- the top of the screen is partially unreadable - the bits where the
- score and the sound status should be are a jumble, a complete mess of
- meaningless garbage. The text boxes within the game (descriptions and
- whatnot) are also a bit mucked up - spaces, numbers and any
- punctuation symbols are also replaced by these garbage characters.
- This makes it rather hard to read descriptions and impossible to tell
- how I am going with the game. I can still play, but it is a nuisance,
- and I would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me how to
- fix this.
-
- So far my housemates have tried (failed) to fix the problem by
- fiddling with the .ovl and .fon files. The game seems to want to run
- in EGA mode, and changing the filenames so that ega_graf.ovl is
- actually the CGA or HGC file didn't have any effect. Changing the
- dmode settings didn't have any effect either, nor did running the game
- as a Windows window (but that was a long shot anyway).
-
- Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it? I hope it's not
- the fault of my video card (a Tseng Labs ET4000. And I've got an SVGA
- monitor, and it's all running on a 386-40 with 4 meg of RAM if that's
- relevant).
-
- Someone - please help!
