  11. [Apologies for massive cross-post -- I'm at wits end!]

  13.     I'm looking for info from anyone who really knows MS-Word
  14. for the Mac or the Spectre Mac-Plus emulator for the Atari ST.

  16.     I have an Atari ST (yeah, I know...) running a Mac-Plus
  17. emulator called a Spectre GCR, with 4MB of memory (about 3.8 in Mac
  18. mode), 60MB of hard-drive space in the Mac partition, System 6.0.8,
  19. and an 800K floppy drive.
  20.  
  21.     Microsoft Word 5.1 for the Mac, which I purchased at an
  22. attractive academic price, requires the following:
  23.     * Mac Plus or greater (check -- as far as any program knows)
  24.     * Hard drive and one 800K drive (check)
  25.     * One MB or more memory, two for grammar or Sys7 (check)
  26.     * Apple System 6.0.2 or later, Finder 6.1 or later (check)
  27.  
  28.     Well, I just tried to install my academically-priced Word 5.1
  29. and the Installer tells me I don't meet the requirements for
  30. installing Word 5.1.  Neither "Easy Install" nor "Customize" is
  31. available.  What really ticks me off is that I installed and
  32. then deleted an original 5.0 from the Mac Lab I work in at Michigan
  33. State just to be sure it would work, and the 5.0 installation went
  34. just fine!

  36.     You know what'll happen when I call Microsoft's help line --
  37. I'll listen to their deejay for 15 minutes and then be told it's the
  38. fault of the unsupported emulator.  I'd almost rather pirate 5.0 instead.

  40.     So, I'm asking two packs of newsgroup readers two questions:
  41.     * COMP.SYS.MAC & c.s.m.APPS READERS: Does anyone know what
  42. Microsoft changed between versions 5.0 and 5.1 that could be tripping
  43. me up here?
  44.     * COMP.SYS.ATARI.ST READERS:  Are there any Spectre users out
  45. there using MS-Word 5.1 successfully?  How did you do it?

  47.     I guess I'd also like any Atari/Spectre users out there who
  48. have their Spectre manuals handy (I'm away from home, so I don't) what
  49. the Gadgets By Small e-mail address is.  I could call or fax tomorrow,
  50. but I'm not entirely sure they're even in business anymore!
