  15.    I snagged a copy of Pchrome 3.0 from a.a, and tried it out on my old 1040 ST
  16.    (no e). Worked just fine, great in fact, even better than my old viewer, 
  17.    DigiSpec (and to think, I paid $50 for DigiSpec).

  19.    But I wanted to see the 32k color mode. So, I trekked down to my "local" dealer
  20.    (about 30-40 miles away) since he has an STe, plus he carries 'Migas, so I
  21.    figured, great chance for a head to head comparison...

  23.    Unfortunately, all I had in terms of pictures were old 256 color GIFs. Well,
  24.    no problem, there was a 24 bit IFF on the 3000 they had set up. So, I got the
  25.    salesguy to transfer it to a DOS-format disk, and I loaded it up. No go. It
  26.    would display just a bunch o' garbage on the screen. So, I figure "Ok, it
  27.    can only handle MOST IFF's, I guess not 24-bit ones...".

  29.    So, we go back to the 3000, and convert the pic, via ADPro, into Targa format.
  30.    This, I KNOW Pchrome can display. So, back to the STe,and load up. Still
  31.    no dice. More garbage on the screen. Well, by now, the store was closing, so
  32.    I had to leave.

  34.    What's the deal? I can accept that it didn't do it in IFF format, the docs
  35.    say it doesn't handle every one, but it's supposed to do Targa files, isn't
  36.    it? I mean, the option is there on the screen!

  38.    The machine I tried this on was a Mega4STe, in 8 Mhz mode. I tried it in
  39.    16 Mhz-buffered mode, but it wouldn't even display GIFs at that speed, not
  40.    surprisingly.

  42. I know Pchrome seems to have a few minor(?) bugs. One is that it doesn't
  43. seem to handle Targa files bigger than 320x200, equal or less than this
  44. works fine on my STe though.
  45. (To fix this and the fact that you can't look at a
  46.  complete Gif bigger than 320x200 without loosing aspect, I wrote a
  47.  simple rescaling-program for Targas and Gifs of any size into a Targa
  48.  of any size. Anybody wants it? Email me.)
