- Help !
-
- I've had a problem with the '*' key on the keypad of my ST whereby the keytop
- snapped off (ie: the leg that the keytop is part of snapped). I made the
- fatal mistake of gluing the keytop leg back together without taking the
- rest of the keyboard appart - the result of this was that I glued the
- key solidly in place !
-
- I then dismanteled the keyboard, unstuck the key and cut away the plastic so
- that the key mechanism worked properly. The problem is that when I came to
- put the keyboard together afterwards I discovered that I was one little
- rubber 'bit' missing. The piece I am missing is about 1cm accross and
- contains a small graphite block which makes the contact on the PCB.
-
- In cross section it looks like this:
-
- ttttttttt
- t KKK t
- KKK
- KKKKKKK
- KKKKKKK
- /X\
- / \
- -------------------------------------PCB
-
-
- where the ttt bit is the keytop and the KKKK bit is the key leg. The
- rubber bit I am missing is the /X\ bit above.
-
- Does anyone have any of these (or the whole key mechanism) (eg: from a defunct
- ST they may have lying around) ? Any help gratefully received as I am having
- to push a screwdriver through the hole in the keyboard to make contact below
- whenever I want to use the '*' on the keypad (which I need quite a lot as it
- is 'escape function' when connected to the computer at work).
-
- Thanks
