  25. I got my HP Deskjet 500 about four weeks ago. You do not need any
  26. special drivers for it. Many commercial software packages support HP
  27. Deskjet (plus, 500) printers. But there is a very good ASCII printing
  28. program called 'Idealist'! You can print every ASCII text in up to 9 (!)
  29. columns and because the Deskjet has some built-in crosswise-fonts (right
  30. word?) you'll need *much* less paper when printing manuals, listings
  31. etc. Idealist is available in a German and English version from the
  32. author (Christoph_Bartholme@ka.maus.de) or via anonymous-ftp from
  33. ftp.informatik.tu-muenchen.de. It's shareware since version 3.2 and
  34. costs DM 20.- (~US$15).

  36. The 500C is 100% backwards compatible to the 500. I don't know of any
  37. program using the colour of the 500C/550C. Maybe Signum!3 colour does.
