- This accident has happened before but it depends largely on the
- details of the setup wether something can be repaired. Sometimes
- you have pure luck, sometimes you have not.

- F.e. this happened once to a Maxtor 660MB drive. Result: the drive
- was perfectly ok except that the power supply was trash.
- In a second case a Seagate ST277R drive was shot and we had to
- replace the complete electronics (we luckily had a second drive
- with a defective read/write head).

- As for _repairing_. The largest problem is getting spare parts
- as the drive manufacturers use parts specifically made for them
- which aren't publically available. Some manufacturers will 'repair'
- a drive by selling you a new drive at 80-90% of the list price
- of a new drive. Of course you loose all the data. Getting the
- data restored is _extremely_ expensive.
