- If I'm not mistaking, the thread is about OS design and I'm merely pointing
- out that you are speaking of nailing ones foot to the floor in this respect by
- having to support an existing and crippled msdOS...Pretty much like Intel's
- backwards compatibility that has held back their 386->486 line. I had a
- very nice mixture of emotions when I tried using a Beta version of Windows
- NT last night.. It stemmed from Laughter at boot up (seeing nothing
- that gave me a chubby over Windows 3.1..which the media and Microsoft
- are trying to lead the public to believe otherwise) to utter ulcers
- when trying to have 2 seperate MSDOS prompts each formatting a diskette
- in their own drive (which, by the way took over 30 minutes to complete)
- and using a HD intensive application in a 3rd window. Then the emotion
- of sorrow came over me when I realized just HOW MANY PEOPLE believe
- the utter BullSh!t that Microsoft and the Media are playing Windows NT up
- to be. This was done on a 386/40 Mhz with a very fast IDE drive, with 8
- Megs of Ram...which by today's standards is not that underpowered a machine.
- It was also quite humorous to also find out after the disks SAID they were
- done formatting, that I could not get them to be recognized as properly
- formatted floppies. I found myself with plenty of time to go outside
- and smoke a cig. each time I requested something with the mouse.. it was
- worse than molasses in the winter time; but it was good for a laugh.
- The 20 MEG swap file was also good for a chuckle... what the hell does
- it need all that sh!t for?
-
- About the only thing I found "usefull/useable" about it was the Mine Sweeper
- game. Wow, $500 for a PD game... (*spin finger*)
