- OS2 has very little software for it at this time. Most people seem to want it
- to run DOS and soon Windows3.1 programs. So basically you are still running
- 8/16 bit software on a pretty nice hardware platform which is not standard(
- Ultrasound is not standard and its sw emulation of the SB still has many
- problems), few DOS programs (which is what you will be running mainly) support
- anything but VGA which leaves the local bus ATI card kind of wasted. Moreover
- ATI has still not completed OS/2 native drivers for its card (unless you are
- willing to go for 8514) and the 1meg version has real problems for anyone
- on a network and with a need for QEMM.
-
- The Gateway system is nice for a PC, but it's still a PC with all that entails.
- Poor graphics and sound, as well as a misguided user community. It's not for
- nothing that there was little increase in productivity over the past years
- due to massive buying of micros.
-
- The ATI Ultra Pro card received a very mixed review recently in Windows
- magazine (or one of the other 3 usual ad magazines). They suggested the ATI
- Ultra+ as the Pro still had some bugs in it.
-
- Finally Gateway is one of the first with the 2 extra local bus slots, and this
- really could cause problems should the final "standard" bus on the PC ever
- be arrived at.
