- I can't agree. Screens are good for 2 reasons:

- They allow windows to be grouped together to a virtual desktop. Several GUIs copy
- this f.e. HP VUE or Xrooms. Screens also extend the screen space which is needed
- on _small_ displays.

- With screens an application can _choose_ certain screen resolutions. Without
- it is limited to the single display mode which therefore has to offer the
- highest possible resolutions. Compared to simply switching the display mode
- this is more flexible. Of course this is an optimization too.
