  13. Where should I look for finding the cause of this situation? Could
  14. somebody help us, please.

  29. a) If the TCP/IP-software in my PC is the Wollongong WINTCP for DOS
  30.    there is no trouble in connecting the PC (with telnet) to the 4D/20G
  31.    type IRIS with the older IRIX 3.3.1 operating system,
  32.    but it cannot be connected to the other IRIS (with IRIS 4.0.5)?

  34. b) If I am using a product called PCTCP instead of the WINTCP I can
  35.    connect to both IRIS workstations with no trouble.

  37. This started when we took the newest release 4.0.5 of IRIX! Before that I
  38. could connect the PC to both workstations with WINTCP.

  40. We have checked what happens on the lines. The messages seem to go to the
  41. IRIS quite OK but the messages it sends to the PC are not understood by the
  42. WINTCP and everything just stops.

  44. There are two problems which I know of, but could anyone evaluate how much
  45. they have an effect on this situation (they both existed before we took the
  46. IRIX release 4.0.5):
  47.  
  48. 1) the thin-Ethernet segment where the PC in connected is too long (205m)
  49.    but the traffic is quite small!
  50.  
  51. 2) the IRIS with IRIX 4.0.5 has a clear difference in what is its speed
  52.    when inputing data through the Ethernet compared with the output
  53.    speed (which is 10 times faster!). We have asked about the reason for
  54.    it from the Silicon Graphics but they have not found out the reason yet.
