- Until today, we had a thin Ethernet Novell LAN, and with the BNC
- connection into my 3c503 adapter, the default configuration of the
- Netware Requester worked fine by simply including the loading of
- 3c503.sys in the netware statements in config.sys.
-
- We are converting to a 10baseT setup, and can have multiple protocols
- (IPX and IP) so that we can run our Novell Network and also be connected
- to our campus backbone (each workstation will have its own IP number --
- mine will be 130.127.148.142). Hardware and network decisions are made
- for me...
-
- Problem: to acomplish this, we've plugged in an external 802.3
- transceiver into the AUI port on the 3c503 card, and an RJ45 cable into
- that (from the 10baseT box). The BNC connection is no more and is
- detached. Now, I ran a little utility 3c503.exe in DOS to tell the card
- that it should use the external transceiver, and when I boot DOS, I can
- have everything and it all works fine using the DOS ODI drivers (LSL,
- 3c503, odipkt, ipxodi).
-
- Under OS/2, however, I can't seem to make the Requester talk through the
- AUI port instead of the BNC port -- it eventually dies trying to find
- something to attach to. My main problem is that our network people are
- anti-OS/2 (or at least OS/2 ignorant), and there seems to be no
- information/documentation about my card WRT OS/2. I can't even get to
- my server with IPX only, let alone use two protocols.
-
- Can anyone out there give me a hint?
- Question 1: How can I make OS/2 requester know that it should use the
- AUI port and external transceiver for 10baseT?
- Question 2: Any hints on getting IPX and IP protocols working at the
- same time?
-
- Changes to CONFIG.SYS? NET.CFG? PROTOCOL.INI?
-
- Please help.
