- Well world I just went through a problem setting up my new Sound Blaster Pro
- to be used with Windows 3.1 so I figured I would post the fix that the tech
- support gave me so that those of you who are less fortunate than I to be a
- long distance call to Creative Labs wont have to spend good money which you
- could be spending on more memory or new software.
-
- My problem was setting up the drivers with windows 3.1. When I went to install
- the Creative Sound Blaster Pro Wave and Midi driver windows popped up with an
- error generated from the soundblaster software I am assuming because it was a
- generic error box not a normal error box with the stop sign or exlamation
- or the question mark. The error stated that I could not load that driver under
- my current windows because I was running an old version of windows 3.1. That I
- am. I purchased my copy of windows the day it was released. So I went haywire
- and started looking through the docs that come with the soundblaster and do
- everything it says. Then I decided to call the tech support. Getting though
- was hell but when I did I was put on hold for about 15 minutes. Anyways the
- fix is so very easy that they should put it in the readme file that comes on
- the setup disk that covers most any other error. Here is the fix:
-
- Go into your system.ini file. Go down to the 386Enh section. Check all the
- device= lines. Some of them may say device=filename.386. Change all of those
- lines(just the ones in the 386Enh section keep in mind) to read
- device=*filename . So very easy.
-
- So now that I have my soundblaster working does anyone know an ftp site where
- I can get .mid files? I have a ton of wav files(could use more though) but only
- 4 widi files. Have fun!
