- Hej!
-
- It hasn't been going that well for Digital lately and that's why the
- only 386 PC I could get is a very old Bell Tech (386 DX - 16 MHz).
-
- The service people over here installed it according the rules, but
- every time I try to start Windows in 386 Enhance mode, it exits with
- the message:
-
- EMM386: Unable to start Enhanced Mode Windows due to base memory back fill
-
- I can run Windows in Standard mode, but I have not that much memory
- installed (4Mb) and I'm getting tired of getting this message from the
- Memory Manager claiming that Windows can't claim enough memory.
- Other people with newer 386 systems experience no problems when running
- Windows. The funny part is that I already lost so much time chasing this
- problem, that it would have been cheaper to buy me a brand new 486/50MHz
- system. But that isn't the way Digital works ....
-
- The line in CONFIG.SYS containing EMM386 looks like this:
-
- device = c:\windows\emm386.exe noems
-
- Looks pretty normal, or what?
-
- Has anybody a clue , or can anybody at least tell me what this EMM message
- means?
-
- Please reply by e-mail since I'm away during the holidays.
-
- /Hans
