  13. It hasn't been going that well for Digital lately and that's why the
  14. only 386 PC I could get is a very old Bell Tech (386 DX - 16 MHz).

  16. The service people over here installed it according the rules, but
  17. every time I try to start Windows in 386 Enhance mode, it exits with
  18. the message:

  20. EMM386: Unable to start Enhanced Mode Windows due to base memory back fill
  21.  
  22. I can run Windows in Standard mode, but I have not that much memory
  23. installed (4Mb) and I'm getting tired of getting this message from the
  24. Memory Manager claiming that Windows can't claim enough memory.
  25. Other people with newer 386 systems experience no problems when running
  26. Windows. The funny part is that I already lost so much time chasing this
  27. problem, that it would have been cheaper to buy me a brand new 486/50MHz
  28. system. But that isn't the way Digital works ....

  30. The line in CONFIG.SYS containing EMM386 looks like this:

  36. Has anybody a clue , or can anybody at least tell me what this EMM message
  37. means?
