- The "state of the art" bibliography manager (what ever that means...)
- is Procite. I believe the latest verision is 2.0, and it runs on both
- DOS as well as the Mac. Not sure what the latest version on the Mac
- is, though. I've used an earlier version, and it is very good. It is
- the defacto standard used by librarians (according to a couple of
- librarians I talked to), and many CD rom databases will output their
- searches in Procite format. Neat for including CD Rom / other searches
- into your bibliography.
-
- Procite will also read in searches from many on-line systems, such as
- Dialog. It can then do in-text searches and generate a bibliography
- for you. This means that in your article, you can say things like
-
- "such as tudies of pointing devices, [Card, English & Burr
- 1978], "
-
- and on scanning the document, Procite will include the correct
- reference, or if it is not sure, all references that match that, and
- you can then delete all the unnecessary ones.
-
- UNFORTUNATELY... procite doesn't run as a windows app, runs fine in a
- window.
-
- Another alternative is Endnote, which was originally written for the
- mac, and is supposed to be a much simpler / easier to use and cheaper
- version. I believe there is now a windows version of Endnote, but I'm
- not 100% sure of that.
-
- Hope this helps,
