- FM>Question 30 of the most recent FAQ states that current users of "DV/X
- FM>to Other X Systems" can receive a free copy of Novell's stack by contacting
- FM>QD.
-
- FM>I gave up on
- FM>DV/X some months ago because I wasn't willing to pay for PC-TCP in order
- FM>to run it (It was more cost effective to run OS/2). So now, I'm looking
- FM>at my office-mates lonely PC and wondering: Can I buy an ethernet card for
- FM>it, combine it with the DV/X+Network Manager and the Novel thing they will
- FM>send me for free, and have a DV/X system that works the way I had
- FM>originally hoped? If not, then is the Novell stack just to allow Novell
- FM>LAN users to get onto TCP/IP networks? If this is the case, then are
- FM>there any cheap alternatives to getting a DV/X machine working?
-
- 1) It depends on what you had originally hoped, I guess. Quarterdeck
- Technical Note #263, DESQview/X: Remote Computing (DVX2XSYS.TEC) will
- explain how the architecture works, and a fair bit of what you can and
- can't do.
-
- 2) The Novell TCPIP Transport does not require that you be running a
- Novell network, though it does require a network card, and that you are
- physically connected to a TCP/IP network of some kind.
-
- 3) Make sure that you contact Customer Service at (800) 354-3222; if you
- already own a Quarterdeck product, the whole works (except the network
- card) should cost $200; X under DOS doesn't come cheaper than that.
