  26. again to explain where I'm coming from.

  33. There are essentially two possibilities:

  35. (1) Just about any reason you give the admins will
  36. qualify you for an anonymous (sic) account.

  41. situation before the admins will go along with it.

  43. My working premise, based on what I heard from WELL people
  44. before I started this thread, and corroborated more or
  45. less by fig@eff's first post to this thread, was that
  46. (2) is closer to reality.

  48. Now, I will allow that (1) is possible but if so, it
  49. would seem a lot more up-front if the admins simply made
  50. pseudonymous accounts an option, rather than making
  51. new users jump through hoops.  IMO, of course.

  53. (I am starting to suspect that WELL's acceptance of
  54. requests for pseudonymity has become more liberal
  55. in the recent past -- say in the last six months
  56. since fig@eff left the WELL -- and this is resulting
  57. in the divergence of opinions as to whether (1) or (2)
  58. is closer to the truth...)
