-
- USR supports only Class 1, all other manufacturers implement Class 2.
- This means, that you cannot use the FAX capability of a USR modem
- with one of the available programs like WinFAX, GPFAX... and the
- software USR supplies runs only under MS-DOS... :-(
-
- USR Modems are not perfect, there is a very annoying bug in _every_
- modem manufactured by USR: These modems simply hang up without telling
- the remote modem about it! They do not send a GSTN-cleardown nor the
- disconnect sequence of V.42.
-
- If the remote modem is a ZyXEL or a supra I get a "Disconnect
- initiated by remote modem". This means that the remote modem
- sent the V.42 disconnect sequence. If the remote modem is
- an Elsa (german manufacturer) I get a "normal Disconnect, no Error".
- This means, that the remote modem initiated a retrain, sent the
- GSTN-cleardown during the retrain and disconnected after the retrain.
- But if the remote modem is a USR, I get a "loss of carrier" as the
- disconnect reason!
-
- It looks like that USR modems have some problems to detect the
- GSTN-cleardown, because they hold the line too long, if they
- have been connected to an Elsa modem.
-
- This bug is known for more than 1.5 years and has not been fixed!
-
- BTW: Supra has changed the disconnect reasons from 1.200C to 1.200H.
- With 1.200C all works like described above, with 1.200H the
- reason 000 and 004 changed places. So you get a 000 in S86 if you
- disconnect from a USR-modem and a 004 if you disconnect from an
- Elsa modem. This is wrong, I hope supra will correct this bug soon...
-
- GSTN-cleardown is the way a V.32bis modem tells the remote modem to
- disconnect, V.42 has not to be active. With V.42(bis) you normally use
- the disconnect sequence implemented in V.42.
