- I have a few questions about choosing a network vendor/ product. I have been
- shopping for a local ethernet bridge and have found that there are a large
- number of vendors offering their bridges at a wide range of prices. We will
- soon be occupying new facilities along with a completely redesigned network, so
- our network expenses should be kept to a minimum in the meantime.
-
- My first question is a general one. How often should the rule of thumb 'you
- get what you pay for' be applied to network equipment? I'm inclined to buy the
- cheapest bridge I can find, but I have a fear that it might fail and the vendor
- will be long out of business. How much is the 'what you pay for' just a name?
- e.g. Cabletron, Dec, etc.
-
- My second question is about a particular vendor. I've seen some ads and some
- prices from Network Application Technology that look fairly attractive. They
- boast "affordable" network solutions. Has anyone had any experience with this
- company?
-
- Any advice on this topic would be appreciated.
