  16. Lists of all files in the WSMR-SIMTEL20.Army.Mil MSDOS archives and
  17. utilities to display, search, or print them are contained in directory
  18. PD1:<MSDOS.FILEDOCS> as follows:

  20. SIMIBM.ZIP contains SIMIBM.IDX, a comma-delimited listing of all files
  21.      in the MSDOS subdirectories with a brief one line description for
  22.      each file, which is suitable for importing into a database program.
  23.      This file is updated at approximate 7-10 day intervals.
  24.  
  25. SIMLIST.ZIP contains the latest SIMIBM.IDX in text format for those
  26.      would would rather not deal with the comma-delimited index.  The
  27.      format of this file is the same as that produced by the SIMCVT
  28.      programs.

  30. These programs can be used to display and search the index:
  31.  
  32. SIMDIR22.ZIP displays the file SIMIBM.IDX.  You can browse through the
  33.      list by moving a highlight bar and by pressing function keys.
  34.      The file is displayed as a two-level hierarchy.  The upper
  35.      (initial) level consists of a list of directories, and the lower
  36.      level consists of a list of files within a single directory.  At
  37.      the lower level, you can move directly to the next or previous
  38.      directory by pressing a single key, and you can search across
  39.      directory for strings of text.  At either level, you can exclude
  40.      all files that were uploaded before a specified date.  It will
  41.      optionally create an output file of selected file names, suitable
  42.      for use with the BSD Unix BATCHFTP or AUTOFTP programs which are
  43.      available in SIMTEL20's PD8:<MISC.UNIX> directory.

  45. SIMTEL35.ARC is a program which will import any SIMTEL20 comma-delimited
  46.      catalog file and convert it to a .DBF and allow viewing, searching,
  47.      printing reports, etc.  The user does not need dBASE and all the
  48.      necessary files will be created as they are needed by the program.
  49.      It will optionally create an output file of selected file names,
  50.      suitable for use with the BSD Unix BATCHFTP or AUTOFTP programs
  51.      which are available in SIMTEL20's PD8:<MISC.UNIX> directory.

  53. SIMAIL50.ZIP reads the output file of the SIMTEL35 or the SIMDIR22
  54.      programs and translates it to multiple output files suitable for
  55.      mailing to LISTSERV or TRICKLE file servers.
  56.  
  57. WSIM11.ZIP is a Windows 3.x program that can convert SIMIBM.IDX to a
  58.      dBase III .DBF file.  It then uses this file to do searches on
  59.      filename, directory or description.  All searches are substring
  60.      searches and are not case sensitive.

  99. FILDIF.ARC is a program for comparing a previous copy of PD1:<MSDOS>FILES.IDX
  100.      with a new copy.  It displays files added and deleted since you got an
  101.      older index.  This is useful if you are trying to maintain an archive
  102.      in sync with SIMTEL20.  It can generate output scripts for batch FTP
  103.      processing.

  105. PD1:<MSDOS>FILES.IDX is a comma-delimited file, without descriptions,
  106.      of the MSDOS directory, suitable for importing into PC-File+ or
  107.      DBase III.  This file is updated on a daily basis (sometimes several
  108.      times a day when a lot of new files are uploaded).

  110. It's impossible to make a daily updated list with descriptions with the
  111. quantity of new programs available.  We average about 300 new files per
  112. month.
