- MACINTOSH LAB TECHNICIAN

- We plan to hire one or two people, working for a total of 25 to 30
- hours/week, starting on 05 January 1993 and ending on 02 April 1993.

- Job Description:
-
- We are looking for people to maintain our networks of Macintosh computers,
- and to provide support to the various Macintosh users in our department.
- Some NeXT and IBM PC maintenance may also be involved as we expand our
- facilities.

- The Macintosh system maintenance involves various things, such as hard disk
- management (deleting junk files, de-fragmenting files, re-formatting
- hard-disks, fixing what users have messed-up, standardizing configurations,
- font maintenance, icon maintenance, etc.), data recovery, diagnosing and
- fixing crashes, repairing damaged systems and disks, hardware maintenance
- and cleaning, simple hardware repairs, installation and configuration of
- new software, system upgrading, testing new shareware programs, virus
- protection, and fixing network and communications problems.

- The user support would be for various people, from undergraduates and grad
- students to staff and faculty. Duties include getting new users started
- with the Macintosh, helping users with software and hardware problems,
- preparing user documentation, and monitoring the labs.

- The employees will work under the direct supervision of the lab instructor
- for computer-aided instruction.

- Job requirements:

- We are looking for people who regularly read the Macintosh newsgroups on
- USENET, are familiar with downloading shareware and freeware from public
- archive sites on the internet, and who generally keep current with what is
- happening in terms of the latest Macintosh problems, fixes, bug reports,
- software reviews, virus alerts, etc.

- These people must be technically competent and have a thorough knowledge of
- the details of Macintosh systems. Also required are networking experience
- (preferably with AppleShare), and experience with diagnosing and repairing
- a variety of problems which can occur with floppy disks, hard disks, and
- large multi-user networks. It is also desirable to have experience with
- Word, Excel, OzTeX, MiniTab, electronic mail, and UNIX access. Experience
- with RAM installation and hardware repairs would be a definite plus. Some
- NeXT and IBM PC experience would also be beneficial.
