-
- Anomaly is an i486 UNIX system based in Providence, Rhode Island. Anomaly is
- operated for The Rhode Island Internet Systems Cooperative Network, a not-for-
- profit Rhode Island organization which provides UUCP and TCP/IP connection
- services to small organizations and businesses who cannot afford the high cost
- of subscription services available elsewhere.
-
- Anomaly has multiple dial-in lines, with "trunk hunting" set up for easiest
- user access. The Telebit PEP main dial-in is 1-401-455-0347, and the v.32/
- v.42bis dial-in is 1-401-331-3706.

- ****************************
- * Premium Services Offered *
- ****************************
-
- Anomaly offers the following services to subscribers:
-
- * Domain-based mail forwarding
- * USENET Newsfeeds
- * Internet Access
- * "Smart-host" services
- * Internet MX forwarding
-
-
- *******************
- * Mail Forwarding *
- *******************
-
- As a site directly connected to the Internet, Anomaly can act as the MX mail
- forwarder for subscribers. Mail routed off the Internet is queued for your
- site the moment it arrives. By updating your UUCP Map entry in the
- COMP.MAIL.MAPS newsgroup, sites which maintain a PATHALIAS database will
- automatically route your mail thru Anomaly.
-
- If you do not currently have a domain name, the staff at Anomaly can assist
- you in obtaining your own personal domain address. You can obtain a unique
- domain address from the NIC, or utilize one under RISCNET's domain. Of course,
- should you not desire to use domain-based routing capabilities, then we can
- act as a simple UUCP hop inbound and outbound for you.
-
- For your outbound mail, Anomaly can act as a "smart-host" for your site. If
- you do not have Internet domain-mail capabilities, then you can install SMAIL
- and define Anomaly as your smart-host in your PATHALIAS database. So, you have
- full domain-mail addressing capabilities, without the added overhead of
- maintaining a complete PATHALIAS database.

- * News Feeds *
- **************
-
- We can provide "complete" feeds to any site which is connected at speeds of
- 9600 baud or above. Sites connected at speeds less then 9600 baud we generally
- limit the amount of news traffic for; as it would take more than 24 hours to
- transfer the amount of news which we receive in a 24 hour period.
-
- Anomaly has access to a complete backbone newsfeed (approximately 45 megabytes
- daily) in some 3500 newsgroups. In addition, we "gateway" many mailing lists
- into "local" newsgroups prefixed by "risc.". This allows our subscribers to
- access the largest possible base of information on the network.
-
- In order to establish a newsfeed, you need to request a copy of our NEWSGROUPS
- file, and select those groups which you would like to receive. News is then
- forwarded to your site periodically during the day, when enough articles have
- been processed to make the batching process worthwhile. Our UUCP batches are
- generally 800k in size for PEP and v.32 connections, and 100k for non-PEP
- connections.
-
-
- ***************************
- * UUCP Connection Charges *
- ***************************
-
- UUCP connection charges on Anomaly are based upon an hourly-rate. The more
- time you use, the more you pay.
-
- The hourly charge for a UUCP connection is $2.00. All billing is done monthly.
- UUCP transfer statistics accumulated on Anomaly are used to determine total
- connect time. UUCP statistics are only accumulated during the actual transfer
- process of each mail/news batch - they do not account for UUCICO startup time,
- nor handshaking delays between each mail/news batch.
-
- Anomaly has a one-time setup charge of $30 to handle the establishment of a
- UUCP connection account. This fee covers the setup of a UUCP login ID and
- modification of our system files to accomodate your site. Any modifications
- to site parameters (ie: you first use us for a news connection, then decide
- to have us process your mail) are covered by this one-time fee.
-
-
- ***************************
- * Anomaly-Initiated Calls *
- ***************************
-
- If it is not possible for you to reliably call us, then Anomaly will call your
- site. There is no additional charge for this service, except, of course, for
- any long distance charges incurred associated with the connection. A one month
- deposit equal to the applicable long distance charges is required prior to
- commencement of this service.
-
-
- ***************************
- * TCP/IP Network Services *
- ***************************
-
- Anomaly is connected to the Alternet, and provides personal login accounts for
- those users requiring access to an Internet-connected host. NSFNET access is
- provided for those users whose traffic conforms to the NSF's Acceptable Use
- Policy.
-
- For users not qualified for NSFNET access, the vast resources of the
- Commercial Internet Exchange (CIX) are still available.
-
- The features available to subscribers include Mail, USENET News, FTP, telnet,
- rlogin, and access to hundreds of other services on the Internet. This service
- is available for as little as $17/month with an hour of connect time per day.
-
- Other types of accounts, such as dial-up and permanent SL/IP or PPP connections
- are also available, depending on customer needs.
