  24. Sally Kellerman, an actress whose career never quite got off the ground
  25. after that role.  Are you thinking of Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson in
  26. -Chinatown-?

  28. It's an interesting phenomenon to look back on the careers of film
  29. stars who never quite made it.  An example that I think of is Dominique
  30. Sanda, who was in Bertolucci's -Conformist-.  This was 1971 or so, and I
  31. was entranced by her presence on the screen, kept looking for her to
  32. break through (my moviegoing is admittedly erratic) in other roles; and
  33. she never did.  Saw her a couple of years ago in some forgettable made-for-TV
  34. movie, and it was heartbreaking.  Downright heartbreaking.  The film was
  35. about the terrorist hijacking of a cruise ship -- Achille something or other.
