- Sally Kellerman, an actress whose career never quite got off the ground
- after that role. Are you thinking of Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson in
- -Chinatown-?
-
- It's an interesting phenomenon to look back on the careers of film
- stars who never quite made it. An example that I think of is Dominique
- Sanda, who was in Bertolucci's -Conformist-. This was 1971 or so, and I
- was entranced by her presence on the screen, kept looking for her to
- break through (my moviegoing is admittedly erratic) in other roles; and
- she never did. Saw her a couple of years ago in some forgettable made-for-TV
- movie, and it was heartbreaking. Downright heartbreaking. The film was
- about the terrorist hijacking of a cruise ship -- Achille something or other.
