  15. I absolutely loved today's Cathy in the comics .... I am a recipient of a
  16. yearly missive extolling the marvelous achievements of a family of super-
  17. achievers.  This family lives several states away, I rarely see them, no
  18. contact at all for a year, but they mail out reams of stuff each year
  19. about how great each of their lives and adult children's lives are.  Some
  20. of it true, some greatly exaggerated, and all negative stuff unmentioned
  21. (understandably, I guess, but would like to see something more honest).
  22. So, I would like to (but won't) respond with a fictitious letter, containing
  23. some of the following ideas:
  24.  
  25.    a.  Well Suzie's pregnant again... we had hoped she would finish high
  26.        school ...but her school has a good program for unwed teenage
  27.        mothers.  At least this time the father is not a married man ...
  28.        and least she thinks so.
  29.  
  30.    b.  Well Raymond is finally out of the house (phew).  He lost his fifth
  31.        job in 4 years .... really wasn't his fault ...the brakes on the
  32.        company truck wern't that good ... and besides the building he
  33.        hit needed a lot of work anyway.  Well, don't expect he will be
  34.        back home soon (I believed his story about the great deal he got
  35.        on that batch of VCR's - new, in package, only $20 a piece!)
  36.        anyway, as I said he probably won't be back soon as I doubt he
  37.        will earn time off for good behavior.

  39.    c.  And Uncle Frank ...he dodged a bullet again ..literally.  Seems
  40.        the woman's husband came home unexpectedly and fired at Frank as
  41.        he made a hasty exit out the back door.  Unfortunately, in his
  42.        haste to escape in the dark, he tripped over something and broke
  43.        a leg.  But no problem!  We still had the crutches left over when
  44.        my old man broke his own leg the night he was so drunk that he fell
  45.        in the sewer companies new purification pools ...boy, was that ever
  46.        a stinking mess!
