- Rashmi posted something about building blocks for girls. I walked
- through F.A. O Schwarz today & felt pretty grim about the offerings
- for kids. What I was looking for were little animal figurines, the kind
- that are hard and accurately molded. The store was full of huge stuffed
- animals, the kind you need to live in a mansion for. I imagine that
- a parent needs to feel a load of guilt to fork over the $100+ for one
- of these bears. They seem to sadly compensatory, that's what I mean.
- Beyond stuffed animals there's little more that isn't hypercolored
- plastic. Really, I found more satisfying selections in Dickson
- Brothers hardware store. (Martin, at 20 months, would love a
- trash can of his one, especially one with a swivel opening. That
- would be heaven for him.)
-
- Judith went to Mississippi? The things I miss when I tune out of
- Words-l for a month or two. I'll bet there are Words-lers out there
- who don't know who the hell I am.
-
- Martin, by the way, is still speaking one word at a time, but his
- vocabulary is expanding rapidly. Our au pair has got him calling
- apes (gorillas, mostly) "monkeys." She means well, and I
- haven't the heart to correct her. So when I take the little
- guy to the local Museum of Comparative Zoology, he points to the
- gorillas and says, "Monkey," and I have to live with that. He
- also seems to think that the statue of John Harvard is "daddy."
-
- How you folks all doing?
