- I wondered whether CNN etc was indeed a bad place to get cultural information.
- It is a limited place, of course, but it provides information of a sort [after
- all it is 'read' by an American audience and so must reflect their perspective
- to some extent.]
-
- And so what is striking is that in the aftermath of 'disasters' here in Canada,
- the Canadian news media opts to show stories of self sufficiency rather than
- squeaky wheels. I wonder why.
-
- The contrast between WEstern and American Samoa is so strong, I can only
- conclude there is a more general dependence on govt in the US than in WEstern
- Samoa.
-
- this coupled with a fundamental distrust of Govt - ask a Canadian and they
- will tell you politicians are stupid, ask an American and they are likely to
- tell you politicians are crooks.
