  11. Apparently there is now a heated battle erupting over the Department
  12. of the Interior appointment...the environmentalists and the Hispanics
  13. are fighting over it.  Environmentalists want Bruce Babbitt; Hispanics
  14. are demanding Bill Richardson of New Mexico, who is of Hispanic
  15. descent.

  17. Richardson has a decent environmental record, but the environmentalists
  18. say it's not good enough.

  20. Babbitt has a good environmental record, but the Hispanics want one of
  21. their own; they're angry that Clinton has appointed only one Hispanic
  22. (Henry Cisneros).

  24. Meanwhile, Clinton is reportedly surprised at his sudden attack of
  25. acute laryngitis.  "Forgive my voice," he gasped at his press conference
  26. yesterday.  "I'm trying to meet my Christmas deadline.  I just can't
  27. sleep very much...My doctor checked me out Friday and said my voice
  28. was completely healed.  I'm just completely stunned by this."
