- I am sorry for sending this to the list, but Michael did not sign his
- mail personally and I could not find him in the ALA directory, so I
- I am hoping to reach him through the list.
-
- Michael:
-
- First, please remember to sign all of your mail. Some mail systems such
- as ours do not include all of the customary heading information, so I
- do not know your individual address.
-
- St. Norbert College chose III in the summer of 1991. Dynix was one of about
- six companies which responded to our RFP. Out of the six, I seem to recall
- that it was in the bottom third. Basically, we just did not think that it
- coulddo some of the features that we wanted as well as DRA and III could. We
- are a
- small comprehensive college library in Wisconsin.
-
- We have had all of the III modules up since May, 1992. We have been very
- pleaseed. Circulation is up about one third from pre-automation days. I work
- in reference and information services, so I am very aware of ease of use for
- out
- patrons. Some patrons who have used other automated system have complimented
- uson ours over others that they have used.
-
- I also favor the relative ease of doing some pretty sophisticated searching.
- For example, the limiting capability is very powerful, and it is very easy to
- get into this mode.
-
- We have installed the III software on a DEC 5500 minicomputer. We have had
- someproblems between the minicomputer and the servers, but nothing that our
- computerservices people have not been able to rectify after a few hours.
-
- I hope that this helps. If you need any more specifics, please let me know.
