- Lines: 85
-
- This Christmas came with its usual presents, one of them in TCP/IP...
-
- On Christmas afternoon, our SMTP server (IBM MVS SMTP V2R2.1) received
- a mail file with an explicit source route address as the From: clause.
- It received the file into the normal disk dataset without a (visible)
- problem.
-
- However, when it reread the ADDRBLOK dataset, it got into a CPU loop. I
- have had TCP/IP V2R2.1 in production since Wednesday, December 16,
- without this ever happening, but now my SMTP just gets into this loop
- EVERY TIME it gets an explit source route address as a From: clause.
-
- Normal From: lines get processed just fine, as the following shows:
-
- Received Note 00000009 via TCP (0) From <CWIS-L@WUVMD.Wustl.Edu> 3053 Bytes
- Delivered Note 00000009 to <rcmokoo@HDETUD2> forwarded to MAILER@UCLAMAIL
- Received Note 00000010 via TCP (0) From <IBMPC-L@HEARN.nic.SURFnet.nl> 18575 Byt
- Delivered Note 00000010 to <rcpsbrl@HDETUD2> forwarded to MAILER@UCLAMAIL
- Delivered Note 00000010 to <rcpsako@HDETUD2> forwarded to MAILER@UCLAMAIL
- Received Note 00000011 via TCP (0) From <WPCORP-L@HEARN.nic.SURFnet.nl> 2232 Byt
- Delivered Note 00000011 to <rcivjan@HDETUD2> forwarded to MAILER@UCLAMAIL
- Received Note 00000012 via TCP (0) From <CWIS-L@WUVMD.Wustl.Edu> 1041 Bytes
- Delivered Note 00000012 to <rcmokoo@HDETUD2> forwarded to MAILER@UCLAMAIL
- Received Note 00000013 via TCP (0) From <@HEARN.nic.SURFnet.nl:C18-L@PSUVM.BITNE
-
- The last line is where it breaks down. The contents of the ADDRBLOK
- dataset are as follows (from the first crash):

- We don't have a nameserver on our MVS system, all requests are sent to
- a Sparcstation for resolution (which seems to work OK).
-
- The SMTP.CONFIG has Punch NoSourceRoutes, Rewrite822Header NO specified,
- but all of our outgoing SMTP files originating from a slave system have
-
- @hdetud2.tudelft.nl:user@hdetud11.bitnet
-
- anyway (instead of the user@hdetud11.bitnet that I asked for).
-
- Any suggestions for PTF numbers?
