  11. Here at Ohio State, we are considering obtaining a 3090-600J,
  12. which will be shared by the administrative computer center
  13. and the academic computing center.
  14.  
  15. A 3090-600J can be logically partition into 7 partitions; or it can
  16. be physically partition into two equal halfs, each which could have
  17. 7 logical partitions.

  19. Each computer center needs a partition for a MVS production system
  20. and a partition for a MVS test system, for a total of 4 partitions.

  22. There is a possibility that each center may want to run Unix in partition.
  23. The administrative center is currently running Amdahl's UTS Unix,
  24. which can only run under VM on an IBM machine, but may consider AIX.
  25. The academic center is interested in AIX.

  27. Another partition is to be used for a new project.

  29. Does anyone have experiences with partitioning a large 3090 that they
  30. are willing to share?    Any pitfalls we whould be aware of in planning this?

  33. Should we consider running VM/ESA as the base system control program in the
  34. entire CPU complex or part of it?   Then run some of the various systems
  35. under VM.   What are the implications of this with respect to various
  36. types of controllers, etc.?    Comments both good and bad are welcomed.

  39. I do not want to start a discussion war between the MVS people and the
  40. VM people. We can use all of the tips, comments, advice that people
  41. are willing to share.
