  20.         As someone who works with engaged couples preparing to marry
  21. in the Catholic Church, I must take issue with that statement. I
  22. cannot speak for individual priests, but the Church (at least today's
  23. Church) itself does _not_ discourage interfaith marriages. We do try
  24. to make sure interfaith couples have explored together the issues
  25. their faith differences are going to create for them, and ask them to
  26. reflect on why they want a Catholic wedding.

  28.         It's fair to say an interfaith couple has more "hurdles" in
  29. front of them, but that's because there are more concerns due to the
  30. faith differences. Can they each respect the other's faith
  31. differences, and can they still share a spiritual journey?

  33. They certainly may marry if they are ready, though. We are currently
  34. working with an interfaith couple who have a more solid spiritual
  35. foundation than many of the purely Catholic couples we've seen.

  37.         Your mileage may vary, mainly depending on the quality of the
  38. priest you connect with. I've learned through the marriage ministry
  39. NEVER to say "No priest would ever say / do <insert ridiculous
  40. position / thing here>." Somewhere there's probably an exception.
