- From a quick scan of just my CD collection, how about:
-
- Marc Bonilla (pretty good guitarist; album named 'EE Ticket' has annoying
- aural collages at the end of the tunes, all instrumentals.)
- Hunters & Collectors (Aussie band, Band of the Year a few years back. Album
- I have is 'Ghost Nation'; pretty good basic rock/pop, some passion.)
- London Quireboys (British band whose debut came out at the same time as the
- Black Crowes, and a very similar sound; don't think they went anywhere)
- Bireli Lagrene (Django Reinhardt clone as a youngster, went electric later;
- I have 'Inferno', which is pretty decent.)
- Chris Thomas (Bluesman from Baton Rouge - son of Tabby Thomas, who runs Tabby's
- Blues Box here; debut album 'Cry of the Prophets' has some good stuff, more
- modern sound like a cross between D'arby and straight blues.)
-
- A couple of locals whose albums I don't have, but that might make it bigger:
-
- The Subdudes (Kinda funky N'orlins R&B/pop/Cajun stuff; band name comes from
- an incarnation of a previous band that started playing more 'subdued'
- stuff. Actually, they may be bigger than I realize, as apparently folks
- like John Hiatt, Bonnie Raitt, and Linda Rondstadt are fans.)
-
- Troy Turner (Another blues son, dad is Floyd Turner; his debut album was
- named 'Big News from Baton Rouge' and I should have bought it for the
- title alone :-) Has a more recent release.)
