  13.     Happy Hedonistic Holidays to all of you still at work.  May your
  14. nights flow with good wine and good cheer and your mornings be
  15. hangover free.
  16.     Hope everyone's holiday loot was as expansive and obscene as mine
  17. (that's obscene in terms of quantity not content).  This year friends
  18. and family were kind enough to fill my musical requests with gift
  19. certificates, thereby avoiding the unneccesary repeat or just a
  20. really bad pick.  So here's what I helped my family fill my stocking
  21. with this year:

  23. Peter Gabriel _Revisited_
  24.     I had bought _Shaking the Tree_ for my brother this year.
  25. Unfortunately I couldn't resist the temptation and gave it a few good
  26. listens before handing it over to him.  That's one good point about
  27. CD's over vinyl.  You can break into a friends gift and play the hell
  28. out of it without depreciating sound quality.  While shopping for
  29. myself I considered STT but decided for _Revisisted_ instead.  I
  30. figured I had heard the other and this would be something
  31. completely new to me.
  32.     _Revisited_ has, aside from "Solsbury Hill" (which is by far my
  33. favorite PG song), music I had never heard before.  This is I assume
  34. early Peter Gabriel and is nothing like what I associate him with.  I
  35. dunno.  I think of Peter and I think of "Shock the Monkey" (my first
  36. Peter Gabriel song) or _Passion_ or his last two albums.  _Revisited_
  37. was a whole new look on him.  I believe that I'm quite pleased.

  39. Sonny Sharrock _Ask the Ages_
  40.     Believe it or not I found this in a used CD bin.  You guys have
  41. been goin on and on about SOnny for so long that I figured that I'd
  42. have to at least give him a listen.  Wow.  I was absolutely blown
  43. away.  This is a really hot album.  Sonny has become an overnight
  44. favorite.  I can't believe I've never heard of him before.

  46. Praxis _Transmutation (Mutatis Mutandis)_
  47.     I don't usualy listen to a lot of funk.  But this is really
  48. infectious.  I now understand what all the talk is about Buckethead.
  49. I'll be turning as many of my friends on to this stuff as I can.  I'm
  50. also interested in the poet terrorism thing.  That's not something I
  51. know a whole lot about coming from Birmingham.  The arts here tend to
  52. be real placid.  Christ we got three oldies/classic rock stations and
  53. no college radio.  Praxis seems very exciting.  I'd love to learn
  54. more.

  56. King Crimson _Abreviated_
  57.     In all fairness I only got to give this one listen.  I also
  58. realize that this was meant as sort of a joke, a promo piece to send
  59. to radio stations who wouldn't give them airplay anyway.  Therefore
  60. my opinion is not as informed as it should be.  However, at the risk
  61. of many flames from the more venerable and respected memebers of the
  62. list, I'm gonna have to disagree with the prevailing opinion about
  63. KC.  They seemed awful glam-rock to me.  I'm just not into that kinda
  64. thing.  Not being a musician I make no claims about the virtuosity
  65. of their musicianship.  I just wasn't as amazed by this as I was by
  66. the others.

  68.     On a slightly different thread:
  69.     I got a guitar for Christmas.  I 'd been fiddling with a borrowed
  70. one for a few months but had to give it back.  Getting one of my
  71. own was a real treat.  But as is the current trend with my life,
  72. something had to go awry.  (I lost my car in auto accident the Monday
  73. before Xmas and since then things have just gone down hill.  The only
  74. good thing was that the wreck was not my fault.)  I was tuning the
  75. guitar last night when I noticed the neck pulling away from the body.
  76. A most unhappy sight.  Then I realized someone (the place of
  77. purchase) had put steel strings on an acoustic guitar with no signs
  78. of a truss rod.  I hoping my current karma will change and I can
  79. get it replaced with out much hassle.  Somehow I don't think it will
  80. go so well.
