  11. Well, I went out and bought some CDs
  12. before the big Trap Day (Xmas is a trap),
  13. and I just wanted to let you know what I got:

  15. 1.  Moby Grape.  This debut album is quite impressive; it's got a touch of
  16.   the Dead sound without all the hoopla.  It's good music to prepare
  17.   breakfast.  Slightly Deadhead danceable, it has a certain charm to it.

  19. 2.  Jacksons Anthology.  This 2 CD compilation hit the spot.  I just love
  20.   that Motown bass and rhythm section, and there is a lot of it here.
  21.   Sure, a lot of it is cheeseball, but it brings back memories of the
  22.   era and the cartoon.

  24. 3.  Acid Jazz I.  Plain and simple, a house beat with scant bits of solo
  25.   improvisation.  I expected more than that.  It would have been cool to
  26.   hear the "Kind of Blue" style of soloing in there a bit more, but I
  27.   guess the emphasis is more on beat and dancing than on jazz.  It's
  28.   just plain okay.

  30. 4.  Prince o+>.  I gotta admit, after _Lovesexy_ came out, I lost interest
  31.   in the man.  Just for the hell of it, I took a chance on this one, and
  32.   I think it's a pretty good effort.  The funk is there, the badness is there,
  33.   but melody is lacking.  Remember the ol' days when you could sing along to
  34.   "DMSR" or "When Doves Cry"?  It's just not there anymore.  It's sort of
  35.   a husk of an album.  The grooves are top notch, though, and the bass
  36.   is stylin'.  If only Prince would slow down and come up with a good
  37.   song that people can sing along to again.  Are those days over?
  38.   There's a lot of rapping on this album, if that's a treat to anyone.
